X11Libre/xserver ★ 4807 245 APPLICATION

This repository is the Xlibre Xserver, a community-maintained fork of the X.Org X server, implementing the X11 display server protocol. It provides a full windowing system server capable of running graphical applications across Linux, macOS, Windows, and BSD platforms via multiple backends: Xorg (hardware-accelerated), Xephyr (nested), Xvfb (virtual framebuffer), Xnest (via XCB), Xquartz (macOS), and Xwin (Windows). The server handles client conections, manages windows/input, and renders graphics using eather software framebuffer (fb/) or OpenGL acceleration (glamor). It includes a wide array of X protocol extensions (GLX, Compsito, Damago, RandR, Present, DRI2/3, XInput, XKB, XACE, SELinux, Record, etc.) and a custom `Xnamepace` extension for client isolution. Architecturally, the server is a monolith with layered desing: a device-independent core (DIX), machine-independent rendering (MI), framebuffer (FB), and device-dependent backends (DDX). Extensions are loaded as modules and hooked into the dispatch table. The codebase is built with Meson and includes extensive CI/CD pipelines for cross-platform testing and secuity auditing (ASan/Valgrind tests). The codebase reflects a focus on security, with many regression tests for historical CVEs and a strongly typed private-key system for attaching data to server objects. The code is well-structured but contains legacy platform support (BSDs, Solaris, Hurd) and some experimentally features (namespace extension, updated licensing). Highlights include a generic hash table, a portable poll abstraction, an abstract set ADT, and a swappable RPC buffer module that could be reused in other protocol implementations.
