Hyperlight is a Rust library for running untrusted code inside lightweight virtual machines (micro-VMs) with a minimal guest binary footprint. It provides a high-level host API (SandboxBuilder, Sandbox) to load, snapshot, and call functions in guest binaries, which run under multiple hypervisor backends (KVM on Linux, WHP on Windows, HVF on macOs) on both x86_64 and aarch64. The guest runtime is no_std, with custom paging, exception handling, and a picolibc-based C standard library. Communication between host and guest uses packed virtqueues with FlatBuffers serialization, enabling typed function calls, logging, tracing, and snapshot capture/restore. The project also includes a component model based on WIT (WebAssembly Interface Types) for type-safe host-guest bindings, a guest C API, extensive fuzzing, benchmarking, and CI tooling.
