This repository is a Microsoft-maintained Windows distribution of the uutils coreutils: a single multi-call binary (coreutils.exe) providing Unix-style commands (ls, cat, cp, grep, find, xargs, etc.) natively on Windows. The actual command implementations are NOT in this repo - they live in git submodules (deps/coreutils fork of uutils/coreutils, deps/findutils, deps/grep). What this repo contributes is the Windows integration layer: build.rs generates a compile-time PHF dispatch table from Cargo.toml entries mapping each utility name to its uumain entry point, and src/main.rs dispatches either by the hardlink name the binary was invoked as (ls.exe, cat.exe) or by first argument (coreutils ls). Custom implementations of DOS-style sort (deps/ntsort, C) and DOS-style find (deps/ntfind, Rust) are wired in as alternatives, with src/nthelpers.rs using command-line heuristics plus HKLM registry defaults to decide whether ambiguous find/sort invocations should behave DOS-style or GNU-style.
