Mistral Vibe is a production-grade terminal AI coding assistant. The repository contains two full TUI implementations — a Python/Textual client and a newer Rust/ratatui client — that share a Python app-server backend over a strict JSON-RPC/stdio protocol. The app server owns agent-loop orchestration, tool execution, session management, configuration, MCP integration, skills, plugins, hooks, and telemetry. A Rust harness core provides a unified runtime for sessions, checkpoints, subagents, permissions, and programmatic tool calling, with Python bindings via PyO3. The system is fundamentally an application, though it includes telemetry, GrowthBook experiments, and model-catalog caching that are product data signals rather than research artifacts.
