GENie is a mature command-line project generator descended from Premake 4. It embeds Lua 5.3.0 as its scripting engine, allowing users to declaratively define solutions, projects, configurations, dependencies, toolchains, and custom actions in Lua scripts. The tool then generates native project/build files for Visual Studio (2010 through 2026), Xcode (8 through 15), GNU Make, Ninja, CMake, and JSON compilation databases. It is self-hosting: the repository's own build scripts are GENie Lua scripts, and the compiled binary is used by projects such as bgfx, MAME, and SoLoud.
