This repository is the official Dropbox API v2 SDK for JavaScript, providing a comprehensive client library for interacting with the Dropbox cloud storage service. It supports both Node.js and browser environments, including Web Workers, and offers a promise-based interface for all Dropbox API endpoints. The SDK is partially auto-generated from Dropbox's API specification using the Stone code generator, ensuring broad coverage of the API surface including files, sharing, team management, file requests, and newer async content-processing endpoints (riviera). The core library consists of a hand-written transport layer with request dispatch, authentication (OAuth2 with PKCE), error handling, and response parsing, onto which hundreds of auto-generated route methods are attached. The architecture separates concerns into distinct modules: the main Dropbox client class (src/dropbox.js) handles RPC, upload, and download request styles; DropboxAuth (src/auth.js) manages OAuth flows and token refresh; DropboxFileUploader (src/filetransfer.js) and DropboxFileDownloader (src/filedownload.js) provide robust file transfer with progress reporting, retries with exponential backoff, and content hash validation. The SDK also includes a content hasher (src/content-hasher.js) for verifying file integrity, and utility functions for URL building and environment detection. Key design patterns include a consistent request options interface (signal, timeout, extraHeaders) across all routes, a unified response/error wrapper (DropboxResponse/DropboxResponseError), and cross-environment abstractions for file binary representations. The library is distributed as a UMD bundle via CDN and as ES/CJS modules for bundlers, with TypeScript declarations generated alongside the routes. While the SDK is well-maintained and actively developed, it carries some technical debt: the generated route file (lib/routes.js) is large and repetitive, retry/backoff logic is duplicated across modules, and some dev dependencies are outdated. The codebase demonstrates solid engineering practices with clear separation of concerns and reusable patterns, making it a reliable client for Dropbox API integration.
