This repository contains the complete source and tooling for the Open Sans typeface family. It is a font production project, not a software application or data pipeline. The source masters are stored in UFO (Unified Font Object) format across multiple weight, style, and width variants (Regular, Bold, Italic, Light, Thin, ExtraBold, and their Condensed equivalents). Build scripts (sources/build.sh, original source/build.sh) orchestrate generation of static and variable TrueType fonts using fontmake, glyphsLib, ufo2ft, fonttools, and other font engineering tools. A set of utility scripts (tools/vf2s.py, tools/fix_gasp.py, tools/dehint_composites.py) perform post-processing tasks such as instance extraction, gasp table insertion, and hinting adjustments. The repository is primarily intended for font designers and engineers contributing to or maintaining the Open Sans typeface, which is distributed through Google Fonts. It is not a reusable library or application, but its UFO structure and build pipeline exemplify professional font production using open-source tools.
