This repository is a community-driven research project that systematically compares endpoint detection and response (EDR) telemetry capabilities across Windows, Linux, and macOS. The core data artifacts are JSON matrices (EDR_telem_windows.json, EDR_telem_linux.json, EDR_telem_macOS.json) that map telemetry categories (e.g., process creation, file manipulation, network activity) to vendor support statuses (Yes, No, Partially, Via EnablingTelemetry, etc.). Supporting tooling includes a scoring engine (Tools/compare.py, telemetry_stats/scoring.py) that computes weighted per-vendor scores, a statistics pipeline (scripts/generate_telemetry_stats.py) that tracks changes over time via git history and GitHub API enrichment, and telemetry generators (Tools/Telemetry-Generator/) that produce observable events to validate vendor claims. The project also includes a Google Cloud Function for webhook-triggered database updates and a GitHub Actions workflow for automated analytics generation. While primarily a data research and benchmarking effort, it contains reusable software components for matrix diffing, config-driven test harnesses, and secure serverless data synchronization.
