This repository contains the source code and build pipeline for the official Ubuntu distribution for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The core component is a C++ launcher executable (DistroLauncher) that registers the Ubuntu WSL instance, manages user accounts, and launches shells via the WSL API. The build system is orchestrated by a set of Go tools (wsl-builder) that automate downloading root filesystem images, generating application metadata and assets (icons, manifests, Windows Terminal integration), and invoking MSBuild to produce an AppX/MSIX bundle for the Microsoft Store. The repository also includes comprehensive CI/CD workflows for building, testing, and publishing releases, as well as end-to-end tests for the launcher. It is a production-grade application packaging system, not a data analysis project.
