This repository is the Pulumi Infrastructure as Code (IaC) platform. It provides a CLI (`pulumi`) and multi-language SDKs (TypeScript, Python, Go, .NET, Java, YAML) that allow users to define cloud infrastructure using general-purpose programming languages. The architecture is a monorepo containing a core engine (`pkg/engine`) that orchestrates resource lifecycle management, deployment steps, and state operations. Language plugins (`pulumi-language-nodejs`, `pulumi-language-python`, `pulumi-language-go`) host user programs and communicate with the engine via gRPC. Code generators (`pkg/codegen`) produce SDKs from provider schemas, enabling a pluggable provider model. The CLI entry point is `pkg/cmd/pulumi/main.go`, dispatching to subcommands for stack management, deployment operations (up, preview, destroy, refresh), policy-as-code, config, secrets, and ESC (Environments, Secrets, Config). External dependencies include cloud provider APIs (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes) accessed through plugins, and state backends (local filesystem, S3, Azure Blob, GCS, PostgreSQL, or Pulumi Cloud). The system uses protobuf for serialization and gRPC for inter-process communication between engine, language hosts, and providers.
The LLM identified 4 files worth highlighting for reuse:
Provides a bounded, closable channel abstraction that prevents panics from sending on a closed channel. Uses a mutex to guard close state and a slice as buffer. Demonstrates careful concurrency design and is self-contained enough to extract into any Go project needing a safe broadcast channel.
Implements the SnapshotPersister interface by wrapping another persister with a validation callback. Each Save operation checks a user-provided validation function (e.g., integrity hash), allowing non-intrusive addition of pre-save validation. Extracts cleanly as a reusable decorator for any persistence layer.
Defines a typed representation for resource property paths using a slice of segments (string keys or integer indices). Supports glob patterns in path segments, used for config and resource operations. The abstraction is self-contained and could be reused in any system requiring structured path operations with wildcards.
Implements a chain-of-responsibility pattern for path ignoring decisions. Allows composing multiple ignore rules (gitignore-style, explicit excludes) into a linked list. The pattern is general-purpose for any file-scanning utility and is not tied to Pulumi internals.
