This repository is an unofficial, experimental fork of GNU Emacs hosted on GitHub. It diverges from the official Emacs source in several key areas: performant long-line handling without narrowing, tree-sitter-based font highlighting and syntactic parsing (replacing the traditional PPSS parser), a rewritten non-blocking Gnus, rewritten process management, and moving garbage collector rudiments. The codebase is a full desktop text editor application with a C core (src/), a large gnulib portability layer (lib/), X11/Lucid widget libraries (lwlib/, oldXMenu/), platform-specific backends for Windows, Haiku, macOS, and GTK, and an extensive Emacs Lisp library (lisp/). The build system uses autoconf/automake with a standard ./autogen.sh && ./configure && make workflow. The project is actively maintained (last commit July 2026) but carries significant technical drift due to its experimental nature, legacy platform support, and infrequent upstream merges.
