RetroShare is a decentralized, peer-to-peer communication and file-sharing application built with C++ and Qt. The architecture is a monolith with a core library (libretroshare) providing services like GXS (Generic eXchange System) for distributed group data, a Qt-based GUI (retroshare-gui), a headless service (retroshare-service), and a standalone friend server for Tor-based peer introduction. The codebase is large and mature, with extensive unit tests and a simulation framework for peer-to-peer testing. While many components are well-crafted, there is unfinished code, disabled tests, and some technical debt from long-term evolution.
